By signing up, we’ve committed to advancing a menopause inclusive culture that supports breaking the stigma of menopause at work. We’ve pledged to listen to the perspectives of menopausal employees to understand their experiences and needs, to learn about menopause and its impact at work, and to act to find meaningful ways to support employees at this stage of life.
Knowing about menopause is one thing. Talking about it is another. Thankfully, we’re at a point in time when discussing the so-called change of life doesn’t have to happen in hushed tones among women only.
Much like mental illness and addiction, menopause carries its own stigma. According to the Menopause Foundation of Canada’s Menopause and Work in Canada Report, nine out of 10 women will experience menopausal symptoms, yet 79% of them wouldn’t feel comfortable talking about them with their supervisors.
Currently, we are a fully female team at the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, so not talking about menopause is not an option.
All eight of us recently attended the first Atlantic Menopause Show at the Halifax Convention Centre. What was meant to be a team-building day of learning quickly turned into a must-know eyes wide open quest for as much information as possible in a way too short moment of time!
One of the gold nuggets we brought back to the office with us was a link to the Menopause Foundation of Canada’s website. Once there, the heading Menopause Works Here pretty much jumped off the page. It’s basically a playbook for employers who want to create a menopause inclusive workplace. Yes, please!

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is proud to say Menopause Works Here! Now it’s time for all of us to share the knowledge, keep the conversation going, and encourage other Nova Scotia workplaces to join this pivotal menopause movement.
Our entire team attended the first Atlantic Menopause Show at the Halifax Convention Centre in October, 2025.
