Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia donors responded in a big way to our COVID-19 pandemic response plan; raising more than $75-thousand dollars for Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction. Funds raised bridged the digital divide for inpatients and outpatients and reduced isolation by putting 180 SIM cards and more than 225 devices in the hands of those in need.

Here’s what some of our Be the Link recipients had to say:

I cannot begin to tell you what this means to me. Yes, I have email and Facebook. But to be able to talk to someone directly, is a whole other level. To hear a voice. To be able to laugh together. My sister in Ontario, my aunt on the other side of the bridge, my cousin out in Bedford, a cherished friend in Antigonish...because of your donation, I am hearing their voices. Thank you so, so much.

I’m very grateful for this program for a few reasons. I am unemployed due to medical reasons, unable to buy a laptop. I am in need of a computer for weekly Zoom doctor appointments, I live alone and my only way of seeing my family is on FaceTime or Skype. This will also help me search for employment after the ‘all clear’ from my Doctor.

Many thanks to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia for the donation of cell phones loaded up with minutes and data. Access to communication and connection is such a crucial need for the folks we serve.

Because of your generosity, dozens of our most vulnerable community members were connected to voices of love, support and reassurance during a time of great fear and uncertainty. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction.

Thank you for being the link.
