Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia honoured with CWTA “Connected to the Community” Award

Dartmouth, NS – May 1, 2015

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia was honoured with a “Connected to the Community Award” at last night’s Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association ceremony in Halifax.

April 30, 2015 marked the CWTA’s first ceremony outside of Ottawa. Connected to the Community awards are distributed to outstanding organizations in recognition of their partnerships with Canada’s wireless industry. The awards program promotes and celebrates the use of wireless technologies in improving the lives of Canadians.

HUGS for Mental Health, the Foundation’s ongoing mobile giving campaign, was launched in 2013. HUGS was recognized for its ability to engage Nova Scotians to donate to the charity via text. The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia was one of the first organizations in Nova Scotia to embrace mobile giving through ZipGive.

Cell phone users are able to make a $5.00 donation to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia by texting the word “HUGS” to the number 45678.

“It’s a simple way to make a difference in our increasingly ‘digital’ world,” says Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Fund Development & Donor Relations Lead, Martha Tuff.

With a bright green Ambassatours bus, Macdonald bridge banners, and an annual event engaging military, fire fighters, and government employees at Halifax shopping malls, HUGS for Mental Health has become an essential part of the Foundation’s fundraising brand.

“We’re honoured to have been recognized for this fun and creative campaign. We look forward to seeing HUGS continue to grow and support Nova Scotians in need,” says Tuff.
