Intersections of Art, Mental Health, & Recovery

TeenMentalHealth.Org is capping off Mental Health Week by exploring the Intersections of Art, Mental Health & Recovery, how the three interconnect and how they can impact the life trajectory of our youth.

The community discussion will be led by Dr. Stan Kutcher, an internationally renowned expert in adolescent mental health, Chair of Adolescent Mental Health & TeenMentalHealth.org.

Dr. Kutcher, will be joined by the Honourable Minister of Health and Wellness, Leo Glavine, Ms. Anne McGuire, President and CEO of the IWK Health Centre and a panel of experts in the field, including:

Starr Dobson, President and CEO of Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Starr was the former producer and co-host of the Maritimes most watched news broadcast, Live at 5 on CTV News.

Dr. John Graham-Pole, Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care at the University of Florida. He co-founded the Center for Arts & Health Research & Education and received the 2012 Outstanding Leadership Award from the Global Alliance for Arts in Health. He is a founding member of Arts Health Antigonish (AHA!). He has written/edited six books, as well as many articles, chapters, poems, and short stories and serves on the Art Health Network of Canada Advisory Board.

Dr. Dorothy Lander, a retired faculty member of the St.FX University Department of Adult Education. Dr. Lander is an arts-based researcher and educator, who has co-authored a research report for the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health – Art as a Determinant of Health and serves on the Art Health Network of Canada Advisory Board. Dr.Lander is also a founding member of Arts Health Antigonish.

Guests in the audience will be given an opportunity interact with their questions to the panel and have a networking opportunity from 1:00-1:15 and 2:45-3:00 with a light snack and beverages.

A preview of the recently opened Somewhere Project, also a TeenMentalHeath.org sponsored art show by former Artist in-Residence Stella Ducklow, will be available at the gallery outside of the auditorium.
