Cape Breton psychiatrist leaves memorial gift to Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia

Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia President and CEO, Starr Dobson traveled to Membertou on Wednesday, October 16th to officially thank the family of the late Dr. Lawrence Buffett. Buffett bequeathed a portion of his estate to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

A resident of Glace Bay, Dr. Buffett worked as a psychiatrist. He spent a large part of his career at the Nova Scotia Hospital site in Dartmouth. The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia – formerly, the Nova Scotia Hospital Foundation- is a charity dedicated to raising funds for programs and services to improve the lives of Nova Scotians living with mental illness. The Foundation is located at the Mount Hope Centre of the Nova Scotia Hospital Site.

“We are incredibly grateful to know that Dr. Buffett has honoured his time at the Nova Scotia Hospital through this gift to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. His legacy will directly impact mental health consumers who live on site and across the province, just as he intended,” says Dobson.

Starr Dobson joined Doug Buffett, brother to Lawrence, at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre on Wednesday, October 16th to present a token of gratitude - a 'Blankets of Love' quilt- on behalf of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
