The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia
Suite 1120, PO Box 1004
Dartmouth, NS   B2Y 3Z9

To become a volunteer with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, you will need to complete a screening process, including meeting with a volunteer coordinator, completing an application and providing references.  Once we receive your application form, you will be contacted for an interview. If your skills and interests match an existing position description you will be asked to attend an orientation session.  Training sessions are provided once you start to volunteer.  The process generally takes approximately 4 weeks.

What would I be doing?

Volunteers provide support in many of our programs from sub-committees of the Board of Trustees, administrative support for Foundation operations or event volunteers for one of the Foundation’s three core signature events. Foundation staff can tell you in areas there are opportunities.  Sometimes, it's difficult to determine when an opening will be available so we maintain a list of trained volunteers who are willing to wait a bit and/or fill in as back-up volunteers.

What is the time commitment?

Many volunteers have been involved with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia for many years, either on a project specific committee or as an event volunteer involved in the one event each year. The Foundation asks for a minimum commitment of the duration of the particular initiative, usually around four to six months.

Who volunteers at the Foundation?

The Foundation engages a diverse mix of volunteers from all ages and backgrounds with a variety of skills. A talent that you may have thought unimportant may be what we are looking for. So call us today!
