None of us makes it through life completely on our own; we all need a helping hand somewhere along the way. For some of us the difficulty is more prolonged and the support required is the recognition, understanding and treatment of mental illness.
We all know improvements can be made to the way care is provided but time is not on the side of those waiting for change. We can’t sit back and wait for the system to change itself. We have the power to through the power of philantrhopy to inspire transformational change.
Together with like-minded partners, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia aims to fund the creation of transformational change, so when someone breaks the silence to ask for help, programs, services and support are there to help them and their families on their journey of self-discovery and recovery.
Creation of the Pathyways to Hope Legacy Fund
Meeting a need not met is what the history of this Foundation is all about. It’s what our donors and volunteer leadership have been doing for over 20 years. Stepping up and putting their efforts to making difference for someone else. Not waiting for the system to change, but helping to create change in the system.
On the eve of the Foundation 25th anniversary, the Foundation is honouring those pioneers who have helped steer our course this far, celebrating their legacy of achievement and carrying the torch into the future with the creation of the Pathways to Hope Legacy Fund, established to create positive and transformational change for the provision of care within the mental healthcare system and inspirational support as individuals return home.
The Fund will support two critical initaitives -- education for client-centred collaborative care and financial support for housing in the community.
