The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia administers a Provincial Grants Program to support individuals and organizations to undertake programs or services that will benefit the mental health of individuals throughout Nova Scotia. The amount of money designated for the Provincial Grants Program is set each year by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and dispersed in three installments.
Research and conference sponsorship are not eligible for grants nor will the Foundation consider funding of annual fundraising campaigns; operating expenses (except initially for new undertakings); operating deficits; projects that should normally be funded by government; general endowment funds; building construction; equipment; or improvements or undertakings that are essentially commercial. Examples of eligible Provincial Grant projects include advocacy and anti-stigma programs, educational opportunities and pilot or demonstration projects.
Applications are reviewed by the Foundation’s Provincial Grants Committee which is comprised of community and business leaders throughout Nova Scotia and are assessed against the following criteria:
- The project’s objectives and anticipated results;
- How the project will address a unique need in the community/target demographic;
- To what extent the project reduces stigma associated with mental illness;
- How the project relates to the Foundation’s purpose;
- How the project’s results will be shared with other organizations and
- The project’s evaluation process and marketing plan.
