Do you know someone who has overcome the obstacles of their mental illness to succeed and give back?
Someone whose story will encourage someone in a similar situation and change the way people think about mental illness. If so, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Inspiring Lives Awards. Honour them with your nomination for an Inspiring Lives Award.
Each Spring during Mental Health Awareness Week, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia along with the Canadian Mental Health Association (Nova Scotia Division), present the Inspiring Lives Awards, recognizing the achievements of Nova Scotians who have encouraged others as they face their own struggles with mental illness and addiction.
As Inspiring Lives Awards recipients, these outstanding individuals have overcome the obstacles of living with their mental illness and now serve as mental health champions in their communities. Through their recovery process, each award recipient helps to inspire the lives of others by …
- actively promoting good mental health in their community
- supporting their peers
- participating and encouraging others to join in activities to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness
Since 2005, 29 individuals have been honoured with an Inspiring Lives Award. Their journey and courage is an inspiration to many, every day. Their story in their own voice helps chip away the barriers of stigma while showing others in similar situations that the road to wellness is possible.
