Hangama Amiri was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, before immigrating to Canada in 2005. She is currently obtaining her BFA (Major in Fine Arts) at NSCAD University. Hangama Amiri's artistic practice is centered on an exploration of self-identity, childhood memory, and interpersonal experiences through the creation of invented portraits in painting. She works on large scale canvas, expanding her materials with integration of oil, acrylic, screen-printing and earth on two-dimensional surface. Hangama had her first solo exhibition, "The Wind-Up Dolls", at Anna Leonowens Gallery in fall 2011.
