The Position Will Remain Open Until Filled
The Mental Health Foundation is looking for a Senior Development Officer to lead and manage a strategic, sustainable, long-term fundraising giving program to support the over 200,000 Nova Scotians living with mental illness. This position serves as the role of chief fundraising officer and spearheads the creation, implementation and facilitation of the fundraising initiatives of the Foundation.
Does this sound like you?
Is making a difference in the life of another what motivates you? Are you professional, tactful and, above all else, genuine. Do you have an ability to build and foster relationships with a professionalism and determination that encourages others to invest in a good cause?
If so, we want to meet you.
The Candidate
You are an experienced, results-oriented fundraiser with exceptional communication, organizational, and project management skill who thrives in a fast-paced environment. We’re looking for someone with a track record of increasing experience and success in fund development including major gifts, annual giving, and donor relations and stewardship. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and determined fundraiser who can demonstrate their ability to identify, cultivate and secure donations from individuals, organizations and foundations.
Eager, proactive, and pleasantly persistent, the ideal candidate will possess a willingness to drive change. Working with the President, you will be responsible for implementing a fundraising plan the primary focus of which is on the identification, cultivation and solicitation of charitable support. You will be active in proposal development and writing, ensuring meaningful cultivation with donors and focusing on the identification of new prospective donors. This is a growth role for us. Hiring you is the next step in our ambitious plan.
You should have proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database and have a keen understanding of what motivates philanthropic support from individuals. And you are a team player, one who thrives in an environment where individual goals are intertwined with the overall objective of the cause. Over the years, the Foundation has had tremendous success with event based fundraising and a capital campaign and we aim to build on that with a comprehensive fundraising plan; we need your help to do it.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years mid-level fundraising experience
- Post-secondary degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Track record of success in soliciting and securing charitable support from individuals, organizations and foundations
- Proven expertise with the Raisers Edge or similar database with the ability to analyze trends and patterns in order to leverage data with results
- Top-drawer communication skills, no exceptions, complimented by superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- CFRE designation would be considered an asset
