FAQ - Community Grants APPLICATIONS

q: hOW ARE grant applications evaluated?

A: Grant applications are evaluated by a committee of independent reviewers. Each reviewer scores the application based on the following questions:

-Does it address a unique need and will it have a measurable impact?
-Does it empower positive change and promote reintegration?
-Does it demonstrate collaboration and partnership?
-Is the project relevant?
-Is the project sustainable?
-Is there a vision for future growth?
-Is the budget clearly outlined and does it provide value for the money requested?

Q: Will I be notified if my application is not successful?

A: Yes. All applicants will be notified when the committee has completed evaluations.

Q: When should I apply?

A: Our Community Grants funding is bi-annual—our applications open for submissions in January (awarded in April) and July (awarded in September). We recommend those who are seeking funding for year-round programming or funding over $10,000 apply in January.

Q: Do I receive funding all at once?

A: No. Successful applicants will receive 70% of their funding up front. The remaining 30% will be released after the completion of the interim report.  Funds not spent during the current fiscal year must be returned to the Foundation, along with your Final Report.

Q: What is the interim report?

A: The interim report is required by the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia to ensure accurate and anticipated use of funds. It is a way for grant recipients to demonstrate the success of their project. It also allows the Foundation the opportunity to share positive stories throughout the year.

q: IF MY APPLICATION IS NOT SUCCESSFUL, IS IT AUTOMATICALLY CONSIDERED FOR FUNDING in THE next round?

A: No. However, you may choose to re-apply. We recommend updating and editing your application to reflect the time of year.

q:IF I RECEIVE FUNDING, CAN I APPLY AGAIN?

A: Yes, as long as it is for a different initiative.

Q:can i apply for more than one grant at a time?

A: Yes, as long as the projects are unique.

Q: Can I promote my project as being supported by the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia?

A: Yes, successful applicants will receive a complete media kit when funding is awarded. We are excited about your project too!
