A district committee reviews the funding priorities for that fiscal year, and makes funding recommendations to the Foundation. The Foundation’s Board of Directors approves the funding based on its ability to raise the funds. In 2009/10, the Foundation is providing over $75,000 in program funding for mental health programs and services within the Capital Health District.
In addition, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia has established a Provincial Grants Program that is providing $75,000 in 2009/10 to support a variety of mental health care initiatives throughout the province. Why is the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia raising money?
Hospitals and Health Districts within Nova Scotia are provided with an annual budget from the Department of Health on which to operate. The health budget meets basic needs but does not provide sufficient funds to enhance quality of life care. The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia raises funds to improve patient support and enhance the quality-of-life for those living with a mental illness.
