Celebrating a Tremendous Year for Mental Health

Blog Post Date:
June 30, 2010

Last week, the Foundation was joined by more than 80 of our volunteers, sponsors and supporters for our annual general meeting at the World Trade and Convention Centre.

It was a wonderful celebration of a truly significant year, both for the Foundation and mental health in Nova Scotia. I was so pleased to have the opportunity to thank our community for their incredible outpouring of support.

Thanks to the success of our province-wide awareness campaign, we have been fortunate to build strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations throughout the province that are committed to the cause of mental health. With our message stretched to all corners of Nova Scotia, more people are beginning to understand the huge impact of mental illness.

Once again, we are blessed with the support of Mike Hachey and his team at Egg Films and Hatch Post, who produced an amazing video called Pass It On. This video illustrates the impact each and every one of us can have by supporting mental health and giving back to our community. It was also the inspiration for our 2009/2010 Report to the Community.

It was inspiring to hear our Board Chair, Fred MacGillivray, reflect on the many highlights of the past year. From the launch of our Opening Minds Capital Campaign in April, to our record-breaking signature events and the receipt of our largest gift ever- $900,000 - it has been a truly significant year for the Foundation.

In addition to providing a snapshot of the past year, Fred and I were pleased to welcome seven new Board Trustees:

  • Colette Curran, Vice-President, Payroll and Human Resources, Trade Centre Limited
  • Glen Dormody, Regional Vice-President, Banking Operations, RBC
  • Mike Hachey, President and Executive Producer, Egg Films and Hatch Post
  • Shawna Homburg-Beaumont, Vice-President of Residential Real Estate, Homburg Canada and the Homburg Charitable Foundation
  • Kiki Kachafanas, CA, Partner, Unsworth-Kachafanas
  • Nicholas Peters, Controller, Nova Scotia Power
  • Joe Ramia, CEO, Rank Group

Each of these individuals come from extensive, diverse backgrounds and we are very fortunate to have them join our team- welcome!

I look forward to another great year of new partnerships, projects and many successes!
